Architecture Design Manager

Architecture Design Department Summary:

The primary purpose is to develop new home plans that are desirable, production friendly, and achieve our company’s mission to provide “affordable luxury” homes. We do not want to be a simple cookie cutter production homebuilder. We desire to have innovative and inspiring designs and marry the words “beautiful” and “production”. Not because we must do this, but because our passion drives us to create beauty and we must do this efficiently and with excellence. In the end our homebuyers are the winners. This is a lovely and worthwhile endeavor.

Job Summary:

This role will serve our customers by personally designing (or overseeing the design) for all new Schuber Mitchell home plans. Additionally, this role will also oversee the prototyping, initial construction documents creation, and elevation renderings. After overseeing each prototype this department will make revisions and ultimately release a new plan family set complete with specifications, floorplans, and renderings that will be built many times over in our communities. This is a fun role that would collaborate across multiple teams in our company and be directly involved with designing the face of the Schuber Mitchell Homes.

Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • The Architecture Design Manager must understand and effectively integrate the company’s value proposition into the department, have a firm grasp of the company’s technology, leverage it to its fullest, and constantly better the company’s designs and processes.
  • The Architecture Design Manager must have the desire to own projects and exceed expectations, with ability to find solutions and deliver results within a rapidly changing, entrepreneurial, technology-driven culture
  • The Architecture Design Manager must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with management and cross-functional teams, for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • The Architecture Design Manager must lead the creation of this department and help evaluate the best process for Schuber Mitchell Homes to develop new plans.

Duties

  • Design
    • Lead the programming, creation, design and documentation of successful new house plans for production homebuilding

    • Oversee creation of photo-realistic renderings of plans and elevations

    • Schematic designs, sketches, and innovative types of new products

    • Time-saving process, strategies, and technology tools

  • Coordinate
    • With the market to see what new home buyers desire in products and styles and what other homebuilders offer

    • With internal builders to assure design constructability as well as quality on new Product Development homes

    • With Purchasing to ensure designs are within current product offerings

    • With Sales to discover success homebuyers wants and current offerings that are not desirable

    • With Leadership on design iterations and updates to redirect design process

  • Improve
    • Drawings systems and processes to continually seek to save additional time and effort

    • Technology platforms, means, and methods to stay current with beneficial new trends

    • Existing technology tools for additional timesaving and work efficiency

  • Standardize
    • Integrate proven production principles

    • Create a design manual to document our design process and principles

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in field related to Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Math, or Science
  • Advanced architecture, drafting, and/or home building experience

Work Schedule:

  • 40-50 hours/week, primarily Monday through Friday during typical business hours
  • Some daily travel required to our communities
  • After hours and weekends may be necessary on occasion for trips or special events.

Work Environment

  • Primarily works in a temperature-controlled environment, but outdoor job site visits required
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license, and must be able to be insured by company fleet insurance
  • Vision for near, mid-range, and far, in addition to hearing for low, medium, and high pitch
  • Requires physical ability for standing, sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching above head and below waist, frequent walking on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, rock, etc.)
  • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds
  • Must be able to perform all job expectations safely with or without reasonable accommodations
